Remote Logins via Telnet

You may remotely login to your CalcLab account from a PC or Macintosh, typically to read your email via pine. Proceed as follows (these instructions are for a PC; those for a Macintosh are similar).

  1. If necessary, open the Communications folder by double clicking on its icon.
  2. Double click on the Telnet icon.
  3. To connect to a CalcLab machine, click on File, then New, and type one of the following in the Host Name field. (In the Name field, just type CalcLab.)

  4. Type in your CalcLab userid.
  5. Type in your CalcLab password.

Soon you connect to the chosen CalcLab server and a Unix prompt appears (e.g., calclab1%). You may now issue Unix commands. (For introductory Unix handouts, visit the Unix Help Desk in Wisenbacker 048. We mention four commands:
