Previous: From CalcLab to PC
You may remotely login to your CalcLab account from a PC or Macintosh,
typically to read your email via pine. Proceed as follows (these
instructions are for a PC; those for a Macintosh are similar).
- If necessary, open the Communications folder by
double clicking on its icon.
- Double click on the Telnet icon.
- To connect to a CalcLab machine, click on File, then New,
and type one of the following in the Host Name field. (In the Name
field, just type CalcLab.)
- calclab1.math.tamu.edu
- calclab2.math.tamu.edu
- calclab3.math.tamu.edu
- calclab4.math.tamu.edu
- Type in your CalcLab userid.
- Type in your CalcLab password.
Soon you connect to the chosen CalcLab server and a Unix prompt
appears (e.g., calclab1%). You may now issue Unix commands. (For
introductory Unix handouts, visit the Unix Help Desk in Wisenbacker 048.
We mention four commands:
- pine (for email)
- ls (to list the files in your CalcLab account)
- rm filename (to remove a file from your CalcLab
account)
- exit (to logout--IMPORTANT!)
