CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Limits and continuity. Rates of change, slope. Differentiation: the derivative, maxima and minima. Intergration: the definite and indefinite integral techniques. Curve fitting.
CALCULATOR POLICY: This course REQUIRES that you have a TI--83 graphing calculator. If you choose to use another type of calculator, you do so at your own risk.
GRADING POLICY: 3 Exams - 100pts each; Quizzes and Calculator Avg - 70 points; Homework Avg. - 70 points; Final Exam - 160 points; for a total of 600 points in the course. Grades will then be assigned on a standard scale: A=540-600; B=480-539; C=420-479; D=360-419; F=below 360.
HOMEWORK will be collected for this course. From the list of suggested homework problems, I will assign 6 problems that will be turned in for credit. This assignment will be given out at the end of class and also placed on my Math 131 web page. All homework will be due at the beginning of the next class period or it will be considered late. If you turn it in after class has started, it will be considered late. Late homework will be docked 5 points. One homework will be dropped at the end of the semester.
There are 4 cutoffs for turning in late homework: Exam 1, Exam 2, Exam 3, and the last day of class. This means that homework assigned due before the cutoff will not be accepted after that cutoff.
QUIZZES and CALCULATOR ASSIGNMENTS: Quizzes will be unannounced and will take around 5 to 10 minutes to complete with the majority of the questions coming from the homework. Each calculator assignment will count as a quiz grade. You are encouraged to work together on the calculator assignments. I am also available for help on these assignments. I will drop at least one of the quiz/calculator grades when calculating the quiz average. Take-home quizzes and calculator assignments will not be accepted late without a university excused absence.
EXAMS: There will be three in-class exams. The final exam is comprehensive. If you miss a test for any university excused absence, you need to notify me no later than the day after the test to set up a time for a makeup.
GRADING DISPUTES Any question regarding grading/scoring must be done within a week of the return of the exams or no change in the grade will be made.

Otherwise, they forfeit their rights to a make-up.
