This course (sequence) constitutes an introduction to partial differential equations from a modern perspective. Topics covered are as follows: (Math 611 covers 1-4; 5 will be covered in 612).This is a mid-level graduate course. Prerequisite: MATH 601 or equivalent.
- A survey of the basic theory of ODEs
- Four important linear PDEs: Transport, Laplace, heat, and wave equation
- Non-linear first order PDEs
- Other ways to represent solutions (similarity, Fourier and Laplace transforms, asymptotics, etc.).
- Theory for linear PDEs: Sobolev spaces theory, 2nd order elliptic equations (including boundary value problems and spectral theory), and linear evolution equations of parabolic and hyperbolic types.
