Portable Document Format (PDF)
Many CalcLab links point to PDF files, which are viewed/printed
with the
Adobe Acrobat Reader, freely available for all platforms via the
Internet. (The reader is installed on all CalcLab, Math, and TAMU open access
lab servers. Click on the preceding link if you wish to download it to
your microcomputer at home.)
Viewing a PDF file with a Web browser
Web browsers on CalcLab or TAMU open access lab computers are
configured to automatically view a PDF file when you
left-click on a link that points to said file. (We also recommend that
you configure your home computer to do so. Read the relevant online
help for your Web browser to determine how to do this.)
If, however, you left-click on a link and the PDF
document it points to does not render properly in the Acrobat Reader,
proceed as follows.
- Right-click on the link and save the PDF file. Note the
directory in which you saved it.
- Invoke your file browser:
- Windows Explorer under Microsoft Windows
- Finder under Mac OS
- kfm under Linux
- Navigate to the directory in which you saved the PDF file and
open it. It should now render properly with the Acrobat
Reader.
Printing a PDF file
- If you're on your LABS account in a TAMU open access lab, simply
print directly by clicking on File, Print, OK.
- If you're logged into a CalcLab server, you must first create a
PostScript file of the document, then use xprint to route your
printout to a printer.
For details, refer to the Section 3 of handout
"Maple in Texas A&M University Mathematics Courses"
- If you're logged into a Math server, the printout will appear on
the printer which corresponds to your PRINTER or LPDEST environmental
variable. (If neither of these is set, it will appear on the lj4si
printer in Milner 201.)
- If you're at home, it will print on your home printer.
