Allen" Subject: Physics Friday Night Movies As an experiment, we are showing some physics-related movies Friday nights at 7:00 p.m. in Room 202. You and other people in the department are invited, of course, but could you also invite the undergraduate physics majors, students in the astronomy courses, etc. if you have contact with them? This Friday, it is a 2-hour movie called "Einstein's Universe" which was made in 1979, the 100th anniversary of Einstein's birth and also the end of the decade that definitively established Einstein's theory of gravity (via the binary pulsar observations etc.). This film is fast-moving and informative (for students), and it was made in Texas. It stars Peter Ustinov, John Wheeler, Roger Penrose, etc. In alternate weeks, we plan to show science fiction classics, starting with the 1957 (pre Star Trek, pre NASA) "Forbidden Planet". Again, please inform the undergraduate physics majors, astronomy students, etc. -- _______________________________________________________________ allen@tamu.edu phone: (979) 845-4341 http://faculty.physics.tamu.edu/allen fax: (979) 845-2590 Department of Physics, Texas A&M University College Station, Texas 77843-4242
