As previously announced, I will be away during the week September
14-18. The standard syllabus will be postponed for a week. (Thus Homework
3 will be due on Friday of Week 4, etc. Please still refer to this
assignment
as "Week 3" in filling in the blanks in the homework review generator.)
Test days will be as originally announced, with material appropriate
to what has been covered in class and homework.
In lieu of class, you have special assignments:
- The wave equation (Note: This reading material is logically
independent of what comes before it. At worst you will need to ignore a
few incidental remarks about Fourier series or transforms.)
- Read pages 129-136 of the class notes.
- Read Chapter 7 of
Harrell and Herod.
- Field trip to the Offshore Technology Research Center
(model wave basin), tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16,
9:00 a.m.
The OTRC Building is in the TAMU Research Park, accessible by the
traditions shuttle bus, or by car (park in the lot on the left side
of the building as you come in). Report to Room 205.
- Linear algebra background for Fourier analysis
Note that the on-line version of Harrell and Herod comes in several
formats, of which the Acrobat version seems to be most readable.
