Good morning [Monday]. Welcome to Math. 629, History of Mathematics, an Internet course. Please do the following: 1. Immediately reply to this message, confirming that you are in contact (even if you sent me e-mail last week). 2. If you have not already done so very recently, look thoroughly at the course Web page, http://calclab.math.tamu.edu/~fulling/m629/ especially the formal course handout (posted Saturday) and the lecture and assignments for Week 1. 3. Take the therein indicated actions; in particular, most urgently: A) Read the first two chapters of the online text. B) Acquire a book (of your choice) on the general history of mathematics. C) Submit a brief self-description (see the top item in "Assignments") to fulling@tamu.edu . 4. Log into WebCT, https://webct.tamu.edu using your NEO username and password. There you will find a Math. 629 course page with almost nothing on it so far. If you agree to make your self-description public, please try to post it in the "notes" discussion group there (in addition to e-mailing it to me). If you have trouble accessing or using WebCT, e-mail me and I'll tell you that I don't have a clue; then I'll find someone else who can help us. I will do my best to offer you an enjoyable and profitable semester. Stephen A. Fulling Professor of Mathematics Texas A&M University
