Learning Maple
The computer algebra system Maple is
- A mathematical word processor which can produce
- Typewriter text
- Input for Microsoft Word
- LaTeX source code for mathematical typesetting
- HTML For webpages
- Rudimentary translations to C and FORTRAN code
- Spreadsheets that import and export Excel files
- A graphing calculator with arbitrary precision decimal calculations
- A calculator that does exact arithmetic without having to resort to
decimals
- An engine to do symbolic algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear
algebra, etc.
- A full fledged programming language, with loops, subroutines, etc.
- A contributed collection of special routines created by scientists
and engineers in many research areas
- The symbolic computation engine for MatLab and an interface for some
MatLab routines
- A front end to numerical routines produced by the NAG Numerical Algorithms Group, Ltd.
and more.
However, in this course, we will exploit only a few of these capabilities.
