Read Chapters 5 and 6. Beware of a few misprints and foibles:

- Page 222 uses the concept of "defect", which is not defined until p. 252.
(See the last exercise below.)
- Page 254, line ll: Angle C should be Angle C'. (In line 13, it really
should be Angle C.)
- Page 260: The last paragraph of the proof of Prop. 6.6 seems to have
migrated to the end of the next proof ("To prove symmetry ...", pp. 261-262).

- Use Proposition 6.1 to justify the "defect" argument in Legendre's proof
