Good evening!  Course materials sufficient for the first week of the 
History of Mathematics course are now available at

Please explore the page and embark on the readings for the first 
week.  The only written assignment for this week is to introduce 
yourself.  

A history course is not a typical math course; I am confident 
that we will all find it strange but enjoyable.

A point of protocol: You are adults, most of you are professional 
educators, and (well, it's probably no longer true, at it was in 
2003, that "some of you are almost as old as I am").  I intend to 
get on a first-name basis with all of you right away, so please 
dispense with my professorial titles.
